School and cultural centre Kaarre is situated in Ivalo, Finnish Lapland. New educational building comprises spaces from nursery to High school -level for 700 students. Cultural centre holds exhibitions, cinema and performing arts, conferences etc. The building also has the central industrial kitchen of Ivalo. Three sámi languages and Finnish are used in education. Sámi culture, delicate northern Lappish nature and a beautiful site along the riverbank provided the basis for designing this building. Entrance and lobby -spaces create the status of a cultural building and serve as restaurant and lobby spaces during schooldays. Lobby functions as exhibition spaces, but for cinema and performing arts there is a 170 person auditorium-space as well. Cell-like structure for the school provides spaces for multi-faceted learning, teaching in teams and socializing across age-groups.
