The Hoxton Chicago, the third North American hotel from the London-based hospitality firm Ennismore, stands as a pivotal element in the revitalization of Chicago's Fulton Market District. Featuring 182 guest rooms and a range of inviting spaces for guests to meet, dine, and unwind, the hotel embodies a strong sense of contemporary urban renewal. It serves as a vibrant hub for social interaction and relaxation, seamlessly blending modern design with the rich history of the Fulton Market District and appealing to both travelers and local residents alike.
Designed by GREC, The Hoxton’s exterior captures the essence and character of Fulton Market with its use of brick masonry and industrial style punched windows. The deep relief of the façade gives way for shadow and light to help accentuate the density of the exterior's texture. The dark metal and glass windows pay homage to Chicago’s industrial heritage while continuing to feature modern material technologies and innovations.
The main level of The Hoxton boasts a fluid, open-plan design of distinct spaces featuring a check-in lounge, coffee stand, lounge bar, and dining room. With GREC’s design team as the lead consultant, we combined efforts with New York-based interior design firm AvroKO, who crafted elegant environments for the hotel’s food and beverage venues: Cabra Cevicheria, a rooftop restaurant inspired by Peruvian culture and cuisine; Cira, a Mediterranean restaurant on the ground floor; and Lazy Bird, an intimate cocktail bar located on the basement level. All dining establishments are operated by Chicago’s acclaimed Boka Restaurant Group. Ennismore Design Group delivered the posh aesthetics of the guest rooms, while GREC spearheaded the design and integration of the Hoxton’s newly branded, hospitality-focused meeting and coworking space, Working From_, located on levels three and four.
Sustainable and responsible design is central to the philosophy of GREC Architects; a commitment that was equally shared by the ownership group and the entire design team. The collective commitment to sustainability throughout the project helped achieve its LEED Silver Certification.
