The House of Memories
Where memories are preserved in contemporary living spaces
The House of Memories was conceived from the desire to create a living space that not only meets housing needs but also serves as a repository for family memories across generations. The project is an intersection of modern architectural language and the valuable traditional elements of Vietnamese homes, where people are always connected to nature, light, and familiar spaces.
Situated on a southeast-facing plot, the house maximizes the advantages of the tropical climate. The orientation of the house welcomes natural cool breezes flowing through the spaces, combined with large glass windows and strategically placed openings, creating continuous ventilation. Cross-ventilation not only improves the indoor microclimate but also reduces reliance on cooling devices, providing a comfortable feeling throughout the day.
The architectural concept is developed from the image of traditional tiled roofs – a familiar symbol in Vietnamese architecture. The sloping roof system with terracotta bricks evokes a sense of closeness, durability, and suggests old houses, while the minimalist white architectural mass and clean lines create a modern, elegant appearance. The harmonious blend of old and new makes the presentation suitable, reflecting local identity while meeting contemporary lifestyles.
The highlight of the show is the central courtyard, acting as the "heart" of the house. This space brings natural light and greenery deep inside, while also connecting the functional areas. It also serves as a transitional buffer between the interior and the landscape, recreating the spirit of traditional Vietnamese houses with courtyards and verandas – where family members gather, chat, and cherish everyday moments.
The communal living spaces extend towards the lake and tropical area, creating a seamless connection between architecture and nature. The water reflects the building's form while also contributing to temperature regulation, enhancing a sense of relaxation and tranquility. The surrounding greenery not only provides privacy but also brings fresh air, allowing people to feel the presence of nature in every corner.
Materials are chosen with a focus on rustic and sustainable design. Red roof tiles, fired bricks, natural stone, and wood are combined with large-format glass, creating a balance between beautiful aesthetics and modern construction technology. The neutral color palette of white, wood browns, and earthy reds provides a warm, inviting yet sophisticated and luxurious feel.
For House of Memories, architecture is not just about form or materials, but also a means of preserving emotions. Every veranda, every window that lets in the breeze, every ray of sunlight filtering through the courtyard contributes to creating peaceful living experiences, where generations share meals, stories, and memories that have endured through the years.
Therefore, House of Memories is not simply a house, but a living space imbued with the spirit of Vietnam – where tradition is preserved in contemporary architecture, where nature is present in every rhythm of life, and where each day becomes a part of beautiful memories.
