On a plot in the rural Hertme, we were asked to design an annex next to the existing house. The assignment was to create the new volume secondary to the main house, requiring a studio, storage room, garage and a porch on the garden side. Therefore, the annex presents itself quite modestly in shape and color and has the typical proportions of a medium-sized barn. Light enters the interior in just the right places, without compromising the authentic closedness. Outerwall openings that do not need light, such as a garage door, are hidden behind the vertical batten facade.
By keeping the building comprehensible, the openings in only the right places and with the use a roof made of a profiled steel sheet, the overall costs are budget-friendly.
