Committed to research and providing technological and professional education, City Tech is an institution that serves a diverse urban population. The Perkins Eastman design team created a new academic complex for the school’s Brooklyn campus that refines the face of City Tech and improves the surrounding neighborhood. The team designed a sustainable, energetic hub where science, health, and entertainment technologies can work together. Primarily operating for the college’s allied health programs, the new center includes classrooms, laboratories, clinics, and support spaces as well as a large theater and gymnasium. The building was designed to strengthen City Tech’s value on building applied skills and promoting an understanding of technology’s social context to foster an atmosphere of inclusion and collaboration. Devising a new approach to design for inter-professional education and interdisciplinary discovery, the team’s vision comes to life as an integral component of the Brooklyn Tech Triangle, the city’s largest cluster of tech and innovation activity outside of Manhattan. City Tech also finishes the Perkins Eastman master plan and urban design for the central core of this innovation and technology hub that has significantly contributed to the revival of downtown Brooklyn.
