Bellacor’s new workspace occupies the entire top floor of the McKesson Building in Minneapolis’s Warehouse District. Made of brick and wood, the existing space had a richness of material and light that was foregrounded in the design approach. As an internet-based retailer of lighting and home furnishings, it was also important that the space be developed as the physical expression of their online presence with a variety of the lighting fixtures sold by Bellacor showcased throughout the office.
The major gathering spaces of conference rooms and collaborative work areas were placed as blocks in the space, providing organizational structure within the framework of the building for the program of open and private offices. A lighting track pattern of varied height and orientation further reinforces these localized conditions, breaking down the open office and creating smaller settings for working. These new insertions are subtle, seeking to defer to the qualities of the existing building while establishing a welcoming, refined space that reflects the brand.
