The pavilion composed by three vertical elements, curvilinear columns merged together into a single object. The visual and spatial perception changes with the observation point, inviting the visitor to a 360 degrees exploration.
The challenge it is to shape complex geometries through a technological two-dimensional system and easy-to-install elements, that makes
WOOD-SKIN an innovative product for the world of complex architecture and surfaces.
Thanks to the experience of INDEXLAB in computational design and algorithmic modeling, it was possible to study new generative algorithms capable of discretize and approximate curved surfaces into flat geometries; for Arches Pavilion, the structure, three meters high with a footprint of about four meters, is made up of 202 different two-dimensional elements of WOOD-SKIN assembled together, directly on site, with hidden bolted connections.
WOOD-SKIN, besides being an innovative solution for three-dimensional walls and suspended ceilings, can be applied as a free-form casserole to contain the cast of reinforced concrete for the construction of structural elevation elements in buildings.
