For ANA 8, we have further developed the learning environment concept of Karolinska Institutet. The concept is founded upon dialogue, visualisation and “peer to peer learning”.
The premises were dark with a closed layout built around corridors. These conditions turned out to be a challenge which we met by seeking inspiration in big cities and their narrow alleyways, and more specifically in the city of Melbourne in Australia. Drawing upon this, we have created urban environments – an inner courtyard, a municipal park, a café and a gallery. Floor, walls, roof and furnishings flirt with the aesthetic on show in the backstreets of the city. In addition, we have furnished the premises with an open computer room, “The City Park” – an interactive space brimming with technology.
Both the informal and the formal learning environments open up possibilities for meetings between various large groups of students and professors. The spaces offer variation; sitting or standing, relaxing or upright, calm or active, silent or buzzing.
The goal is for everyone to be able to find their own niche on the backstreets of the city.
