Before renovation, the building was in a generally sound condition. The design strategy focused on preserving the existing envelope to maintain the character and presence of its traditional architecture within the landscape.
On the upper floor, new window openings are inserted discreetly behind the existing wooden lattice. This precise intervention updates the building while preserving its historic identity.
At the solid base, two former timber openings are combined into a single large glazed element. This intervention introduces generous daylight and strengthens the relationship between interior and exterior. Despite these changes, the building’s distinctive appearance remains largely untouched—its transformation into a dwelling only reveals itself upon closer inspection. At night, a warm glow from within subtly communicates its new life.
The interior has been completely reconfigured. The structure was hollowed out and insulated from within to meet contemporary standards. By lifting the intermediate floor and introducing staggered split levels, a continuous spatial sequence emerges that reinterprets the traditional layout. The rotated geometry, split-level organization, and open ground floor reflect a clear engagement with contemporary architectural practice.
