Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design (CBBLD) is dedicated to enhancing the grace, utility, and comfort of architectural spaces through the use of light. Francesca Bettridge and Stephen Bernstein established the firm with the late Carroll Cline in 1985, and play active roles in every project, providing an exceptional level of personal service. CBBLD’s project work has been honored with over 100 lighting awards, and is featured in leading design publications.
The 27-person firm – a certified Woman-owned Business Enterprise – has completed a varied array of projects, including corporate, government and healthcare projects, theaters, schools and universities, libraries, retail and hospitality venues, museums, parks and landscapes, and residences. This portfolio encompasses celebrated sites worldwide.
CBBLD is proud of its reputation as a leader in sustainable design and innovator in “green” technologies. The firm was at the forefront of the use of LEDs in architectural lighting from the earliest stages of this lighting source’s development. Equally relevant is our lighting designers’ capability in daylighting and other sustainability strategies.
The CBBLD team includes both LEED Accredited Professionals and numerous designers with advanced daylighting capabilities. Demonstrating the firm’s commitment to these precepts, CBBLD is an Approved AIA Continuing Education System (CES) Provider.
CBBLD’s lighting designers champion a core philosophy that the best design solutions are achieved through teamwork and communication. The team uses mock-ups, renderings, and three-dimensional computer visualizations to illustrate lighting design concepts for architects and clients. A comprehensive suite of IT skills including AutoCAD, Revit, AGI32 and Adobe Creative Suite is used to represent spaces and lighting effects, photometric calculations, and energy management analysis.
CBBLD plays a key role in designing built environments that surpass the expectations of owners, users and entire communities.
