Perched along the shores of Lake Washington in Yarrow Point, this custom waterfront residence was conceived as a seamless extension of its extraordinary setting. The architecture is organized to maximize engagement with the water, framing expansive lake views while fostering a continuous dialogue between the interior spaces and the landscape beyond. Generous picture windows, carefully positioned skylights, and large expanses of glazing dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, allowing natural light to animate the home throughout the day. Sliding glass doors open directly onto lakeside terraces and gathering spaces, creating an effortless connection to the waterfront and supporting a lifestyle centered on the outdoors.
At the heart of the residence, a sculptural double-curved spiral staircase serves as both an architectural focal point and a feat of craftsmanship. Developed through close collaboration between the owner, builder, and stair fabricator, the stair rises through the home as a dynamic centerpiece, elegantly connecting the primary living levels. Transparent glass guardrails preserve sightlines and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the interior, accentuating the fluid geometry of the handrails and the intricate interplay of light, shadow, and form.
The home's composition is further informed by traditional Hindu architectural principles, with the primary entrance carefully oriented to face north. Marked by a distinct offset massing element, the entry sequence is intentionally articulated as a moment of arrival, establishing a clear identity while lending balance and hierarchy to the overall composition. This thoughtful integration of cultural values, craftsmanship, and site-responsive design results in a residence that is both deeply personal and enduringly connected to its waterfront setting.
