North Kansas City School District worked with BNIM to create a modern, welcoming entrance addition and a series of enhanced interior spaces for Winnetonka High School that support connection among the student community and set a new standard in future design initiatives within the School and District. As the School has grown, interior adjacencies and entrance sequences came to no longer support Winnetonka’s students and staff, lacking desired functionality, space, and access to natural daylight. The new addition serves to alleviate the spatial deficiencies while embracing future growth and reflecting Winnetonka pride. The new entrance is an inviting beacon for students that infuses school spirit and community throughout all aspects of the design from its unique scrim facade and signage to native landscaping that showcases Winnetonka school colors. The design also focused on expanding the school’s administrative suite, creating daylight-filled flex spaces for faculty and staff, and implementing numerous safety and technology improvements to existing building conditions.
