In South Korea, Most people usually live in 30py(112㎡) apartment for four family member and this house appearance is a living room where many elements such as children’s toys, tables, books of adults, and a large sofa are mixed in the living room. In addition to the living-room-oriented lifestyle, it is difficult to classify spaces according to functions because of the narrow space.
The project began with a question of how to visually and spatially separate the limited space for both public and private activities. Not diving the space because the space is narrow might be seemed more complicated by filling it with furniture or objects, and there is no functional division of the space, it becomes a house that cannot be arranged all the time even if it is organized well.
The entrance required a storeroom for a stroller, bicycle, and a carrier. The door of the storeroom was fitted with strip openings so as not to interrupt the natural light coming through the windows, thus avoiding to create dark areas. The strips let in the lighting while blocking off the sight, and are continued to the bottom of the shoe cupboard to form a bench on which one can sit to wear shoes. On the other side, there is a small chair to match the height of children.
In the living room, the bookcase, bench, and the window-side sofa replace the common scene of a large sofa in front of TV. The wooden strips next to the bench screen the door of the multipurpose room and sash windows, thus helping the user focusing on reading while letting in natural lighting. Together with the bookshelf covering a whole wall, the strips are the focal point that separates the space when seen from the dining room. The bookshelf and the bottom of the bench can be used to store things to compensate for the lack of storage space.
The kitchen table was maintained and added with the storage space of the maximum length and the kimchi refrigerator in the back for storage. There is a partition wall between them to separate the dining room, the kitchen and the living room without interrupting the sight.
Beyond the bed in the master bedroom is an ㄱ-shaped low wall that separates the function of the built-in dressing room. The entire lower part of the dressing table at the entrance to the toilet, which is divided by dark gray color, can be used as a storage room. Since the master bathroom is not a place to stay for a long time, one of the walls were accentuated with blue paint.
