The Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability is an internationally recognized research institution whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable building and urban development practices. CIRS is a state-of-the-art "living-lab". Scientists from leading academic institutions perform interactive research on and assessment of current and future building systems and technologies. Partners from private and public sectors share the facility, ensuring that research is linked to real world needs of community, industry and policy makers.
The building maximizes passive environmental strategies and demand reduction; puts sustainable systems on display; and achieves net-positive energy, net-zero water and net-zero carbon in construction and operations. More than a building, CIRS is a research tool that demonstrates the possibilities in sustainable design serving as a catalyst for change.
