Temazcal at Loma Sagrada:
A refuge for inner transformation
This small ceremonial building was constructed as a self-supporting, semi-buried brick dome. Its rounded, enveloping, and warm shape evokes the womb of the earth. The base, made of natural stone, allows those entering to make direct contact with the ground a practice known as grounding, in which an electrical exchange with the earth helps regulate the nervous system, balance energy, and improve physical and emotional health.
The space was designed to support the deep experiences guided by Eden and Deva, who have shared their description of the ceremony with us:
The Temazcal is a ceremony of purification and connection with our true self, each other, nature, and the Great Spirit. As we experience the four doors or sessions during the process, we purify the body, mind, and spirit, releasing what no longer serves, and calling forth that which we want to bring into our lives.
The Temazcal creates a mirror that reflects unresolved aspects of ourselves. As we breathe light into these seldom-visited places, we experience healing and personal evolution.
We are all searching for something security, understanding, and happiness. The Temazcal creates the opportunity to discover the path we were meant to walk in this life.
The ceremony teaches us to have reverence for all our relatives in the web of creation and reminds us that we are all connected and interdependent. The Temazcal also reveals that everything we have been searching for, we already are. Life isn’t a process of adding more to our lives but rather simplifying by removing what doesn’t serve, realizing that we are the love, truth, and consciousness we seek.
