“Architecture emerges from the environment surrounding the individual.”
This project began with the question: Can we create a self-sufficient house that relies on natural energy such as sunlight and solar heat?
The site is located in Jūsō, a historic downtown entertainment district in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka.
A design competition was held by Up Housing Co., Ltd., a community-based homebuilder headquartered in the local area. Our proposal was selected and the project began.
In collaboration with “Yodokabe”—a local mural project that revitalizes the streetscape of Jūsō with artwork—we invited local artist Kohei Yamao (BAKIBAKI) to paint a sun-themed mural on the exterior wall.
Beyond the artwork, our goal was to create a house with strong environmental performance. To achieve high thermal insulation, we used cellulose fiber and Neomazeus insulation, and adopted OMX (OM Solar), a system combining solar power generation, battery storage, and whole-house climate control.
Through this, we aimed to realize an All-Time Real ZEH—a fully energy-self-sufficient residence powered by solar energy.
The project meets the standards for Long-Life Quality Housing, Seismic Grade 3, BELS ★5 certification, CASBEE Rank S, and HEAT20 G2 (insulation performance UA value 3.9), as well as ZEH (Net Zero Energy House) certification.

ZEH-Oriented Evaluation
This building complies with:
Residential ZEH-Oriented Specification
Applicable under MLIT Notice No. 43
Notes:
ZEH = Net Zero Energy House.
A ZEH is a house designed to achieve zero annual primary energy balance through high insulation performance and renewable energy systems.
This project satisfies performance requirements for ZEH-Oriented housing, which is suitable for regions where photovoltaic installation may be difficult (e.g., dense urban conditions).
Equivalent Annual Primary Energy Reduction:
23% improvement
