In 2021, we had the opportunity to cooperate with a brand named FPDB to create a studio specializing in food photography. FPDB creative is an outstanding creative studio in the food photography industry with many different national and international projects and awards. With a desire to increase the scale of their project, they decided to expand and build a studio to pursue their ambitions.
Studio de Egg’s plan covers about 190m2, situated on the highest floor of an old mansion in Binh Thanh District, Sai Gon with various partition methods to separate the space. “Open plan” was the proposed option. We removed most of the existing walls and ceilings, leaving us with an empty void full of flexibility and transformation, suitable for the new function (photo studio) of the space. A curtain system was introduced as our go-to method of dividing the plan, which can easily meet many different needs. The raw concrete ceiling was kept after the demolition process, the goal is to strive for contrast in the space, between the roughness of the concrete ceiling and the softness of the interiors. Showing a sense of time presence in modernity.
The core of Studio de Egg consists of two adjacent kitchens. Surrounded by an abundance of trees, we let natural light dwell inside, as a medium to connect the interior and the scenery. Thanks to this, Studio de Egg feels like a cozy home kitchen rather than a studio space.
The design language of the two kitchens was purposely chosen to be different from one another instead of one consistent and transparent approach. This brings diversity to the user experience, leaving chefs, bartenders, stylists,… a space for creativity to thrive. For us, approaching the project from different points of view is very important. And not forcing and restricting the user's imagination is our priority, especially for a project like Studio de Egg, where the user and the dishes are the main subjects of interest.
