The 32-room extension to the Steigenberger Hotel in Krems develops the existing form along the lines of the slope until it gently interweaves with the hillside.
The recessed first floor responds to the existing path. The recess in the terrain (forest path) that descends from the north is taken up in the plinth level. The body of the building is merged with the existing building and the landscape in both directions.
The natural stone wall running along the street is seen as a characteristic and defining design element and remains unchanged. Concrete troughs integrated into the balconies accommodate shrubs and trees.
