How can a spacious bath complex be designed within the constraints of significant structural and engineering limitations? How can wild nature be harmoniously combined with the aesthetics of premium design?
These questions formed the foundation of the “Arkhyz” spa project.
Concept: Constraint as a Source of Inspiration
The complex occupies a wing on the sixth floor of a five-star hotel.
A dense grid of columns and service shafts, many positioned at irregular angles to the façade, posed a serious challenge to spatial organization.
Two strategies were applied:
Concealment — structural elements were integrated into wall thicknesses or placed within technical rooms;
Emphasis — select features were reinterpreted as expressive design elements that shaped the spatial logic.
For example, a ventilation shaft in the entrance area was transformed into a sculptural rock formation that conceals service doors and intuitively guides guests toward the core of the complex.
Functional Layout
The complex features five authentic spa suites, each designed as a private space for personalized thermal rituals with a steam master.
Each suite includes a lounge area, changing rooms, a shower area with a pool and plunge tubs, a steam room, a hay lounge, and a massage room.
Supporting functions include staff and administrative zones, as well as a service elevator connecting the suites to the hotel's restaurant on the first floor.
Atmosphere and Aesthetics
Upon entry, guests are met with rugged stone-inspired forms and soft, rounded lounge furniture, setting a tone of comfort and retreat.
Raw, natural textures contrast with minimalist furnishings, reflecting a balance between untamed nature and contemporary luxury.
