The sculptural white concrete volume with its carved entrances, constitutes a clear Gestalt through its carefully designed details and selected materials. The siting of the gymnastics hall picks up on the free placement in the landskape of the Sickla school building free placement in the landscape, and further defines the place by itself providing a back towards traffic and surrounding large scale developments.
The new addition to the site's constellation of volumes, represents the gymnastics hall for school children as well as the elite gymnasts’ training hall. The protective weight of the volume stands in contrast to the challenging of gravity that the gymnasts’ activity entails. The tracks in the volume's surface, the "barcode", with its seemingly random placement, makes joints of the prefabricated elements vanish and thus makes the volume as a whole read clearly. Natural light is let in through skylights and through the open entrances. Mikael Göransson's artistic embellishment further clarifies the idea of a massive volume, where the artistic work is integrated with the material and form of the project.
