The proposal unfolds as a tourist accommodation complex in Cyclades, Greece, conceived as a contemporary echo of traditional settlement patterns. Drawing inspiration from the organic logic of village formation, the project resists rigid order in favor of a composition that appears to have grown naturally over time. Building volumes are dispersed and rotated, avoiding a strict grid, while curved geometries trace the contours of the land. In this way, the architecture follows the topography rather than imposing upon it, allowing the complex to settle gently into the landscape.
Through these principles, a new “settlement” emerges—one that does not replicate the past, but interprets it. References to vernacular morphology are filtered through a contemporary architectural language, transforming spontaneity and irregularity into deliberate design choices that reinforce the project’s sense of place.
The village-like character is further reinforced by the way the complex functions and is inhabited. The program encourages a communal mode of living, where the idea of sharing becomes a fundamental spatial driver. This approach informs the organization of the residential units, which are arranged into three distinct housing typologies based on floor area. Rather than existing in isolation, these typologies interact to form small neighborhoods, each structured around outdoor communal cores—spaces for dining, gathering, rest, and recreation, anchored by shared amenities such as seating areas and swimming pools.
Equally central to the design is the careful calibration between openness and retreat. Each residence is oriented to secure optimal views, while subtle spatial strategies ensure privacy between units. The resulting dwelling experience negotiates a delicate balance between introversion and extroversion, between collective life and individual seclusion.
Complementing the residential fabric is a network of enclosed communal spaces, each paired with corresponding outdoor plazas and positioned at key nodal points across the site. The most emblematic of these is the elevated plaza-balcony at the heart of the complex, accommodating the restaurant, café, and a small retail space. This central gathering place recalls the traditional village square—both spatially and socially—serving as a focal point for daily life and shared experience within the settlement.
