The concept of project windows is derived from the idea of traditional Iranian windows (Orosi) in which the small colourful modules of glass both control the intensity of light penetrates inside and create a colourful effect of light and shadow on the inner surfaces.
Adjusting the proportion of the volume composition, since the building has a narrow width in comparison to its height, the whole complex is divided into two major parts in width and height to reduce the effect of stretched proportions. Thus a big rectangular module was arranged to define the general division of main entrance, office and commercial units on the main façade. The next step was designing a texture on the main transparent façade based on the concept of expanding geometry; an Iranian architectural concept in which one module becomes a base for the formation of a whole complex.
The Idea of Dynamic Urban façade:
However this 16-story building is located between two another urban blocks, its architectural role as a modern office building comes up culturally embedded which explains the Iranian identity in a modern format.
In regard with the urban cape, another significant design factor has been a variable façade depends on different lighting moments of nights and days while using the transparent and semi-transparent textures on the glassy façade creates different qualities of sunlight reflection and angles. Also using the artificial lighting system harmonized with the volumetric concept of façade emphasizes on dynamic urban vistas. Thus at the times that official function is not active, night lighting helps preserve the dynamism of urban cape based on the 3-dimensional essence of the façade and replace the neutral sense of architecture with an active one.
Another notion in regard with this project was to bring an Iranian cultural space which gives its residents feeling like being in their native atmosphere; a space in which one experience an interior space with the effect of shadows and turquoise colour reflection of the modules installed on façade. This effect is always being felt even the semi-transparent blinds are down.
Exterior Material Combination:
The building southern and main façade is comprised of two transparent layers of material of them the first consists of the same rectangular modules installed by small steel rods on the second one which includes the main windows. The front shell of 30*30 glassy modules in the sky blue colour inspired by traditional Iranian Architecture not only brings a colourful effect of shadows and colours in the interior spaces but also creates a thermal and light shield before the sharp sunlight of the south penetrates from the giant glass shields of façade. Supporting the modular design shadows spread on interior spaces, the second layer of double glazed windows repeat that modular movement by the help of sand blasted design on the inner side of the glass sheets.
Overall, the main goal of choosing this exterior material combination was a response to the climatic design needs of the project in a way to reduce the light temperature by 40%.The remained amount is also blocked by the help of Sun Energy glasses
Plan Typology:
The ground has 13.5 meter width and 20 meters length. The building is constructed in total 16 stories of which two underground floors is allocated to mechanical and service rooms , ground and first floors to commercial space and 12 above floors to official units. Considering the municipality rules and public facilities around, there was no need to provide private parking on this project.
Designing the plans typology, the client wished to have different type of office units with the areas ranged from 50 sq m. to 120 sq m..This strategy divides each floor into 2 up to 4 units in each. These units are designed in a dynamic way that let the users feel settled down in regard with their desired official functions without any significant changes in the interior spaces.
Interior Design strategy:
Absorbing the natural light inside the middle interior spaces from main windows looking south and north was one of the major goals in interior designing. Series of linear transparent and semi-transparent partitions made from the glass bricks and installed parallel to the transparent main windows, not only creates a unity between the interior and exterior facades but also provides a major part of interior lighting from a natural resource.
