Saint Joseph’s University is committed to personal health among all students, faculty, and staff. To further well-being on campus, the university aims to transform an old, undersized, and disjointed facility into a dynamic recreation and fitness destination.
EwingCole has performed a feasibility study and design services for a unified recreation center that reinforces university values for student success. The building’s current use is recreation, yet several intercollegiate athletic programs are scattered within it.
Through a detailed demand analysis process — including user group engagement, peer institution benchmarking, and existing conditions investigation — our team’s contemporary design concept addresses a wide range of programmatic needs:
– Create new spaces for wellness
– Improve circulation and connections between adjacent spaces
– Provide efficient and upgraded space for collegiate athletic teams
– Improve MEP systems and add glazing to improve user experience
– Provide universally accessible facility
– Establish a single and secure point of entry
– Brighten up the entire facility.
