STATUS

2007
The Time and Space project for the National Maritime Museum establishes a new centre for modern astronomy at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park, a World Heritage site.

The project transforms the late nineteenth-century South Building and establishes a new landscape context, making it physically accessible and visually connected with the rest of the site. Set in this landscape, the new planetarium joins the collection of astronomical ‘instruments’ which make up the observatory. Enclosed by a tilted and truncated bronze cone, its geometry is defined precisely by the relationship of its location, in latitude and longitude, to the universe it represents inside.

The project won a RIBA Award (2008), Civic Trust Award (2008) and an AIA/UK Chapter Award (2008).
