Composition of Rectangular Houses in the Forest: Modern Aesthetics and Comfortable Zoning
The project was implemented in an exceptional location in Vilnius – the Aukštagiris Geomorphological Reserve. The protected forest environment and hilly terrain became the main axis of this architectural concept. The landscape dictated the position of the buildings on the plot, allowing for maximum use of natural light, opening up the most spectacular views through the windows, and maintaining a respectful, sustainable relationship with nature.
Form and Interior Courtyards
The architecture of the complex is rational, clean, and functional. It consists of three laconic rectangular volumes that connect a single-story residential house and a separate auxiliary building (workshop) into a seamless ensemble. Interior courtyards are cleverly formed between these volumes, serving two important functions:
Visual Lightness: They break down the overall mass of the building, making a large object appear light and uncluttered against the forest bacdrop.
Privacy and Comfort: They create cozy outdoor spaces protected from the wind and neighbors' eyes, organically extending indoor living.
Strict and Logical Zoning
The layout of the house is designed based on clear functional logic, separating three main zones:
Work and Utility Zone: The workshop and auxiliary rooms are moved to a separate rectangular volume. They do not physically border the living spaces, so noise or work bustle does not disturb relaxation.
Common (Living) Zone: A spacious living room with a kitchen is planned at the heart of the house. This space stands out with huge floor-to-ceiling showcases, ensuring a constant visual connection with the nature of the reserve and the inner courtyard.
Private (Bedroom) Zone: The bedrooms are set back further from the common traffic and the main entrance. They are oriented towards the quietest side of the plot, guaranteeing complete acoustic and visual privacy.
Aesthetics and Materiality
The exterior of the buildings is dominated by a cohesive, minimalist aesthetic and high-quality materials:
Clean Geometry and Contrast: The white finishing plaster of the facade highlights the strict shapes of the building and acts as a bright, aesthetic contrast to the dark forest background.
Glass Showcases: Large aluminum-profile showcases (in a light grey RAL 7035 color) give the structure a sense of lightness and transparency.
Green Synthesis: The architecture is subtly complemented by integrated climbing plant walls, which soften the strict lines of the building and help it fully blend into the natural landscape.
Result: This is a cohesive, modern single-story building complex where the strict geometry of rectangles is sensitively integrated into the environment of the reserve, creating a peaceful, comfortable, and aesthetic oasis for living.
