Porter Construction LLC asked us to design a unique office space that illustrated their respect for old structures and materials while showing off their building skills through the reconstruction of an 1897 tenant farmer’s house in Chadds Ford, PA. Inhabiting the precise parameters of the original diminutive shingle style cottage on the road, the 1,300 sq. ft. building with inviting front and rear porches, has a cedar shingle roof and second story siding above first floor clapboard siding. To create a “loft” feel inside a central staircase was designed with a very large mid-level window, open wood treads and cable rails. Whenever possible, reclaimed materials were adapted to combine warmth and modernity expressive of the themes emphasized by Porter Construction’s work.
