Jestico + Whiles is remodelling Pitzhanger Manor and Walpole Park in the London Borough of Ealing. The nationally important Grade-I-listed building, designed by Sir John Soane and George Dance the Younger, will be sensitively restored and transformed into a world-class museum.
On 19th February 2014, Pitzhanger Manor was granted planning permission with a referral to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) required for the listed building consent.
Jestico + Whiles is leading the core design team, working alongside exhibition designer Ralph Appelbaum Associates and landscape architect J&L Gibbons, supported by Julian Harrap Architects and Sarah Couch Historic Landscapes who are providing heritage advice. Engineers Ellis & Moore and environmental specialists King Shaw Associates complete the team.
The proposals include restoration of the manor and entrance lodge; demolition of the Eating Room extension and nineteenth century infill; reinstatement of the Manor’s glasshouse (conservatory) and lantern (rooflight); refurbishment of the gallery as exhibition space and central visitor facilities; construction of a new café and events building in the walled garden; and new hard and soft landscaping including a café terrace and restoration of the Regency forecourt area.
