Located on the ground floor of a multi-family building on South Lamar Boulevard, the second Austin location of Paperboy builds on the identity of the original restaurant with an expanded footprint and refined palette. The 4,000-square-foot interior is anchored by a long, terrazzo-cast bar and open kitchen—elements that, along with diner-style booth seating, establish continuity across both locations.
The 1,200-square-foot covered patio extends the dining experience outdoors. A wood structure of columns and beams defines the space and supports a hung fabric canopy that offers shade throughout the day. Low brick walls and integrated banquette seating create a comfortable and enclosed area that feels connected to the street while maintaining a sense of enclosure. A dedicated pick-up window is incorporated into the façade, offering convenience for to-go orders and serving the hundreds of residents above and in the surrounding neighborhood.
As with the original, the design was a collaboration between Chioco Design and Laura Harms of Kempt Studio, marking the third project together for Daybreak Hospitality. The tall, light-filled main dining room takes advantage of large street-facing windows and is capped by a slatted wood ceiling that conceals infrastructure while bringing the room to a more comfortable scale. Toward the back of the space, a lower ceiling and six-person booths create a more intimate dining area.
The interior palette combines warm wood wall paneling, white mosaic tile, and custom-upholstered seating in a thoughtful reference to classic diners. The open kitchen layout maintains the visual and experiential transparency that defines the Paperboy brand. Thoughtful details and restrained material choices support a relaxed yet distinctive environment tailored to casual all-day dining.
