The second collaboration between Kick Pleat and Chioco Design builds upon the
thoughtful design established in the brand’s Austin location while responding to the
unique architectural qualities of its new Dallas home. Housed in a freestanding
5,000-square-foot building, the structure was completely remodeled to create a refined
retail experience rooted in light, texture, and spatial clarity.
The design embraces the simplicity of the existing gable roof, preserving its form to
define a dramatic vaulted interior. A composition of sculptural skylights brings soft,
diffuse natural light through thick vertical openings, subtly animating the space
throughout the day. This emphasis on daylight continues throughout the store, with
strategically placed apertures that frame views and draw light into key areas—most
notably in the shoe display. Here, an angular skylight shaft directs light onto a circular
banquette that surrounds a decorative tree, anchoring the room with a sense of calm
and presence.
The material palette is warm and elemental. Rich, dark-stained wood cabinetry and
shelving contrast with hand-finished terra cotta tile and a deep green integral plaster,
while zellige white tile adds brightness and tactility. The textural dialogue between these
materials lends the space a sense of depth and quiet sophistication.
For continuity, custom hanging racks and display rods—originally designed for the
Austin store—are reintroduced here, reinforcing brand identity while allowing the
architecture to evolve independently. The resulting environment is both serene and
structured, balancing the rectilinear and the organic, the minimal and the expressive.
Kick Pleat Dallas is a study in restraint and material richness, offering a composed
backdrop that elevates the client’s carefully curated collection and provides visitors with
a distinctive, memorable experience.
