Architecture studio Between the Walls has designed and executed the Ossia project.
Ossia, a musical term referring to an alternative version of a musical passage, embodies the idea of creative freedom and interpretation—perfectly capturing the essence of this project.
The clients, a young couple in their early 30s, share their home with two dogs and two cats. They not only work from home but also frequently entertain guests, host parties, and enjoy board game nights in their living room.
The Ossia project features a two-story house where the architects sought to create an aesthetic, practical, and functional space characterized by vibrant colors and innovative solutions. Their primary aim was to craft something extraordinary, steering clear of conventional gray-beige interiors.
The ground floor boasts a spacious open-plan area combining kitchen, dining, and living spaces. The kitchen, equipped with modern appliances, features a large island designed for two. Its standout feature is its position by the window, offering natural light and garden views. The uniquely shaped island serves as the focal point, with concealed storage for small appliances and a wine cabinet.
The living room includes a large sofa, providing comfort for both the owners and their pets. A fireplace beneath the TV adds warmth and creates an inviting atmosphere for evening gatherings. Separate feeding zones cater to the pets: floor-level for dogs and an elevated area for cats.
The dining area is split into two sections: one near the kitchen for everyday meals and another for hosting guests and evening soirées. This division helps contain kitchen odors, keeping them from permeating the relaxation area.
The upper floor houses bedrooms, work areas, and bathrooms. The master bedroom features calm tones and soft textures, with a suspended headboard incorporating integrated lighting. It includes a walk-in closet conveniently connected to the wet area, complete with a bathtub.
The study accommodates a large desk for two, ideal for paperwork and writing. A unique feature is the marker board integrated into the stainless steel strip above the desk. A comfortable sofa bed provides extra sleeping space for guests.
The children's room is designed for easy reconfiguration as needs change.
Wooden inserts on the stairs to the second floor make them warm and pleasant underfoot. The upstairs bathroom is finished in light tones with microcement, and the shower cabin resembles a cave, illuminated by natural light from a dormer window.
Throughout the house, contrasting colors and graphic lines lend a sense of brutalism and minimalism to the interior. The use of microcement, pink travertine, and metal details creates an impression of monolithic structure and clean lines.
The Ossia project harmoniously blends modern design with functionality, showcasing the residents' individuality and their passion for music and creativity.
