Located within the Four Seasons Mexico City, OMA is a 45-square-meter intimate retreat that transports its guests into a world of fantasy and serenity, inspired by the Japanese myth of Urashima Tarō. Upon crossing the threshold, visitors are immersed in a magical and intimate atmosphere, where the aesthetics of marine nature and ancient legend come to life.
The restaurant is designed to evoke the atmosphere of the deep ocean. Its vaulted ceiling, finished in sandy tones and shaped by a carved incision, creates the sensation of being beneath the seabed. Solid rosewood wall paneling was incorporated as a tribute to master Japanese craftsmanship, subtly echoing the movement of ocean waves. Here, diners not only experience a feast of flavors, but also become part of a journey that connects them to the mysteries of the ocean and its mythical creatures.
Despite its compact scale, the space feels generous thanks to a minimalist and welcoming layout. A linear sushi bar clad in volcanic stone and topped with quartzite encourages close interaction between the chef and diners, fostering a personal and intimate experience. Soft, subdued lighting—evoking the glow of marine bioluminescence—enhances the sensation of being underwater, while gentle wave sounds and distant echoes complete the immersive sensory atmosphere.
The venue accommodates ten diners seated at the counter and two additional guests at a side table. The culinary experience follows the omakase tradition—literally “I leave it in your hands”—in which guests entrust the chef with the menu selection. Each diner is served 13 courses prepared with seasonal, cold Japanese ingredients. As such, the restaurant does not rely on cooking ranges, instead using specialized refrigeration to preserve freshness and quality.
OMA is not merely a restaurant; it is an invitation to travel through history and flavor—a reminder of the enduring connection between humanity and the sea, and a celebration of the magic that emerges when myths are brought to life.
