Narvik Arctic Resort is an year-round mountain and alpine skiing resort. The project encompasses planning of both summer and winter activities and activity areas, modifications to existing alpine slopes and lifts, creation of a new central area with all main functions, such as ski-hire, reception areas, lockers, restaurants and cafes, apartments, hotel functions and includes a waterpark and a indoor/outdoor spa. Also part of the project is a caravan park; Narvik Cabin Park, which will offer small cabins for visitors, placed carefully in the steep sloping terrain and among the trees.
Conceptually the project rests on the meeting between Narvik strong industrial history, with the railroad transportation and shipping of iron ore, and the historic mountain structures such as wooden snow fences. The industry is represented in the rigid black steel structure and cladding. The nature is represented in the wooden slats that forms the facades in-between the black bolted steel. This also creates some fundamental contrasts between warm and cold, light and dark, heavy and light etc.
First stages planned completed February 2018.
