The client requested the design of a small office building on a 57-pyeong (approximately 188 square meters) plot in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, near Hakdong Station. The goal of the design was to maximize the value of the land while considering the building's unique spatial experience and functional efficiency.
With roads on both the front and rear sides of the site, the first floor was designed with openings on both sides, creating an open and accessible space. The main architectural feature is the external staircase that wraps around the building, which serves as both a key element of the design and a functional feature. The underside of the staircase becomes the roof of the balcony, and it naturally connects to the terrace, providing a dynamic experience as visitors move up and down the stairs, offering a fresh perspective of the neighborhood they pass through.
The open spaces created by the external staircase, terrace, and balcony not only enhance the comfort of the building but also provide visual relief from the narrow streets of the surrounding area, contributing to the overall livability of the urban space.
For the facade materials, painted metal and brick tiles were used, considering the budget and construction feasibility. The overall color scheme was inspired by the iconic Han River silver-white color, taking into account the harmony of the urban landscape.
