Monos Georgetown is a flagship retail space located within a narrow 19th-century storefront on M Street in Washington, D.C.’s historic Georgetown district. The project’s primary objective was to create a calm, intentional retail environment that reflects the brand’s philosophy of simplicity, durability, and mindful travel, while respecting the character of its heritage context.
The existing masonry façade is painted white to establish a subtle contemporary identity without disrupting the historic streetscape. Inside, a linear sequence of plaster arches defines circulation and creates a rhythmic spatial experience that guides visitors through the store. Inspired by vernacular masonry vaults, the arches introduce a sense of weight and permanence within the narrow footprint. A circular illuminated installation aligned with the storefront axis anchors the interior, providing orientation and reinforcing spatial clarity.
The material palette - plaster, metal, and mirror - is deliberately restrained to emphasize texture, proportion, and longevity. Mirrored display walls expand the perceived width of the space while selectively framing products. Integrated lighting, acoustics, and scent contribute to a controlled sensory environment.
Through adaptive reuse, material restraint, and spatial discipline, Monos Georgetown offers a composed retail experience that balances contemporary brand identity with historic preservation.
