Rapid growth of the tourism industry in the north of Iran has resulted in unstructured developments, causing damages to the ecosystem and the natural resources in the region.
The site of this project was one of the few remaining untamed coastal lands of the Caspian Sea. The design intention was to protect the ecological values of the area and to create an appropriate typology model for an ecotourism village in the entire region.
The complex consists of hotels and restaurants, along with shopping malls and recreational facilities. Inspired by the traditional method of housing in the region, the project volume was raised above the ground, leaving the land natural and untamed.
All the functional activities happen on levels raised above ground and under a continuous roof. The continuous roof over the entire volume creates semi open spaces which are suitable for outdoor-indoor public activities. The overall shape of the complex was formed in a way to fade the border between the building and nature.
