Miesblock Phase 2 will be a mixed-use building in the core of downtown Des Moines, Iowa consisting of three stories of occupied space. There will be increased glass area at the bottom floor for the restaurant level of the building to engage with the street activity. Tall windows on Levels two and three will afford office tenants expansive views of downtown Des Moines and recall the second level expansive windows of Des Moines’ historic buildings, such as the Liberty Building. The intention is that the module of the exterior envelope will blend with the nearby Mies van der Rohe building and plaza, with a color selection that will be complimentary.
In an effort to continue strengthening the urban infill of downtown Des Moines, plans are underway to create a pedestrian plaza between Miesblock and the neighboring Catholic Diocese building (designed by renowned architect Mies van der Rohe). This plaza will serve to strengthen the downtown core by providing a public/private space for visitors, neighboring employees, and the general public to enjoy.
