Urban Design Group led the architectural design for the Merritt Athletic Club expansion in Canton, Baltimore, delivering an eight-story addition with 12,000 square feet of retail and fitness space, 221 new parking spaces, a rooftop pool, green roof, and terrace with city views. The project addressed challenges of expanding within a tight urban footprint while keeping the existing facility operational for 7,000 members. Through phased construction and close collaboration with Merritt Properties and Merritt Construction Services, the design integrated sustainable features, including a green roof for stormwater management and heat reduction, while maximizing parking and amenity spaces. The completed expansion enhances member experience with resort-style rooftop amenities, alleviates parking constraints, and establishes the club as a premier urban fitness destination in Canton.
