Ge Yuan, located in the Unicorn Park in the south of Hangzhou's Cloud Valley, is the headquarters of Merit Interactive (Ge Tui), a publicly listed company. The project has a total floor area of 87,000 square meters. It is a win-win project cooperating with the independent intelligent big data service provider. The architectural design is inspired by the corporate logo "whale." The three light and dynamic buildings are like giant whales leaping above sea level.
"2-1=3"
If the project site is 2 and the building is 1, the space outside will be 2-1=1. The design thinking of Ge Yuan is to break this conventional site and building equation. Based on Merit Interactive's corporate culture and spirit, the architect proposed the design concept of a "Giant whale leaping out of the sea." On the site's east, northwest, and southwest sides, three towers perched on top of the ocean-shaped podium. The podium connects the three relatively independent blocks to form a large indoor continuous space, providing a workplace for the teamwork of various scales. The podium roof provides ongoing and multiple areas for social entertainment, sports, and other casual activities.
The giant whales leap out
The architect strived for simplicity for the design of the building form. The towers are slightly turned and changed in plan to visually reduce the oppressive feeling of the building volume. Each tower echoes the left high and right low, enhancing the connection between the building units and enriching the change of the building skyline. The partial rise of the tower base above the podium provides a variety of outdoor activities and landscape spaces, while adding multiple depths of view to the space. The innovative diagonal façade of the building shows a shimmering effect under different light conditions, and the partial rise provides a variety of outdoor activities and landscape spaces while creating a visual effect like a giant whale about to jump and take off.
