Syndicate Smith turned an underutilized, steep slope site into the Leavenworth Adventure Park, realizing a developer’s vision to build Washington’s first (and only) alpine coaster in Leavenworth, the firm’s Bavarian-inspired hometown. The park sits at the gateway to Tumwater Canyon, at the intersection of Highway 2 and Icicle Road.
At the heart of the project, an 8,500-square-foot Guest Service Center integrates a viewing area, event space, and provisions for food and merchandise. Alpine aesthetics influenced every detail, giving the park a sense of frivolous folly that encourages children and adults alike to revel in play amidst the mountains.
This project transcends conventional norms — we sought to foster connections with nature in ways not typically experienced or accessible. Despite the challenges of a small footprint and intricate arrival and departure points, the Leavenworth Adventure Park fosters connection with nature in ways not typically experienced or accessible, standing as a testament to the joyous intersection of design and play in the heart of the alpine landscape.
