Jasmax was commissioned to undertake significant refurbishment work to Lambton Square Shopping Centre, a major retail destination located on Wellington’s Golden Mile. The design team were presented with two key challenges: improving unclear circulation within the retail space and attracting a greater tenant mix.
With their former status both leading to a low return, the refurbishment increased the lettable retail area by 10%, and the overall design reinvigorated Lambton Square Shopping Centre, providing a thriving area for people to shop, eat, work and enjoy.
All three entries into the shopping centre were redesigned in response to unique street and pedestrian conditions at Lambton Quay, Woodward Street and The Terrace. The second floor was converted to food retail, including a large seating area. This opens out to a new podium floor providing eatery seating above street level, so patrons enjoy a dining at ‘tree level’.
