The Chalet in Selva di Val Gardena: A Harmonious Blend with the Alpine Landscape
This chalet in Selva di Val Gardena blends harmoniously into its natural surroundings, characterized by the enchanting Alpine landscape and the traditional architecture of the Dolomites. The project originates from the combination of two houses that merge into a single volume, articulated over three above-ground floors and carefully integrated into the existing slope.
The building feels welcoming thanks to the use of elements and materials typical of Alpine architecture, yet it remains innovative through their contemporary reinterpretation. The complex roof structure and the sharp-edged forms created by the balconies convey a sense of strength that reflects the chalet’s modern spirit. At the same time, the use of local materials such as wood and stone lends the structure warmth and a strong connection to its context.
The two upper floors are clad in dark wood, while the ground floor, faced with local stone, serves as a solid base and gives the building a strong material presence. Large windows and glass doors lead to terraces and balconies, extending the interior living spaces outward and offering exceptional views of the surrounding landscape.
Inside, wood and stone once again dominate, presented in a variety of finishes. These materials are paired with natural fabrics and leathers in warm, neutral tones, creating a serene and calming atmosphere throughout. The interiors have been designed with great attention to detail, resulting in elegant and refined spaces.
The internal layout includes a garage on the basement level and a central reception area on the ground floor, while the remaining part of the building is entirely dedicated to guest apartments. The living room is the heart of each unit, featuring a stone and plaster fireplace that creates a warm and relaxing ambiance. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable, each with its own private bathroom. Additionally, every apartment includes a private sauna for an added touch of luxury.
