Nestled among the limestone ridges of the Texas Hill Country, a small ranch vineyard embraces the land’s rugged beauty and climate. Here, a modest tasting room and retreat are carefully positioned in the elbow of two ridges, offering panoramic views while taking shelter from severe winds and intense sun. Embedded just below the hilltop, the structure responds to the seasons—providing shade in summer and warmth in winter—allowing guests to enjoy the outdoors year-round.
Visitors arrive along a winding ridge road to a discreet parking area, then follow a stone-cut path flanked by courtyards toward the entry. The building is anchored by a strong stone wall that separates uphill service areas from guest spaces that open northwest to vineyard views. Three seating areas are calibrated to the seasons: one tucked into the hillside for winter sun, another glazed and flexible for changing weather, and a third shaded for summer relief.
Materials are chosen for durability and authenticity: honed limestone, exposed steel, shou sugi ban siding, and a vegetated roof that blends the building into the landscape. Rooted in place and shaped by the environment, the retreat offers a refined yet grounded hospitality experience—one that honors the land and invites quiet connection.
