1. Project Name: Jeju Haendong House ‘Dain House (Home Sweet Home)’
2. Concept in One Sentence: A house like two homes with a yard, where three generations live together.
**■ Meeting with the Client, Site Selection, and Design Direction**
The client is a young couple living with their parents while raising young children. Due to their work, they are often away from home, so the safety of their children was their top priority. The design took inspiration from the fan-shaped plot and was arranged to incorporate a yard, creating a home that embraces the space.
**■ Building Shape and Layout Considering the Site and Surroundings**
The house is positioned facing the road, with the building fanning open toward the south, where Hallasan Mountain is located. The structure was placed as deep into the site as possible to maximize the use of the southern yard. Instead of entering the house directly from the road, a corridor was created between the road and the gate, forming a transitional space that leads from the stone wall path and the yard to the entrance.
**■ Floor Plan and Room Features**
The parents' area, located as an independent volume on the west side, is completely separated from the dining area by sliding doors. On the first floor, the space is divided into the parents' area, a guest room, and a study, centered around the dining and living rooms. On the second floor, the space is divided into the master bedroom and children's rooms, with a family room in the center, connected by a void and living room. While private spaces are thoroughly separated, the common areas are centrally located, allowing the family to naturally gather and communicate.
**■ Facade Design Plan**
The client requested a design that reflects the idea of two homes within one, where three generations live together. The lower part of the building was unified with a gray exterior wall to create cohesion, while smaller volumes with roofs at different angles were placed on the upper levels to convey that each resident has a unique space within the home.
