A single-storey extension is proposed at the rear of an existing Victorian cottage in the inner city.
The new cubic addition is in contrast to the existing house and steps down in response to the sloped site. This “pristine box” unfolds to create movement and create viewpoints; a large butterfly roof over allows ample natural light to flow into new living areas. Large clerestory windows are proposed above, which open mechanically to enhance cross-flow ventilation and allow warm air to vent in summer.
Natural timbers and metal cladding are the preferred material finish.
