The former 'Eddington Uniting Church' has been restored to its former glory and upgraded for use as a weekend get-away, in a small rural town on the outskirts of Bendigo.
The proposed new fit-out aims to highlight the beauty of the lofty, ecclesiastical interior, where gothic arches and curved forms were used throughout the renovation as an homage to the existing fabric.
The existing nave was retained and enhanced for use as an open space living area. The rear apse has been divided into two levels, each containing a bedroom and bathroom within the former lofty attic space.
Simple, robust materials such as natural timber, stone and fine render finishes were chosen to complement the existing building and for their timeless elegance.
The former church has been double-glazed and insulated throughout where possible. Large tanks were included for rainwater harvesting and the house is fully electric. An effluent disposal field was installed as an environmentally friendly waste water treatment system and there is also provision for a bore water pump.
