House at the Edge of the Forest.
A house where the rhythm of time slows down and each element emphasizes harmony with the surrounding forest. The space, which combines the needs of a four-person family with the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, tries to respond to the needs of peace, intimacy, but also energy and motivation for new challenges. House at the Edge of the Forest is located in a green and peaceful area in a city in Wielkopolska.
The task was to reconstruct and adapt the interiors to the diverse needs of each person spending their time in this place. Intervention in its structure was focused on preserving the values of its surroundings. The most important assumptions are ascetic and calm means of expression, natural and friendly materials, plenty of natural light and contact with nature. The layout with a central terrace in the place of the semi-atrium introduces nature into the interior, saturating it with light and peace. A limited palette of materials and a subtle play of textures create an atmosphere of silence and elegance.
The building was created as a revitalization of an existing facility with the intention of introducing several changes so that it meets the requirements of the clients. The functional layout of the ground floor was changed, separating the central part of the plan under a semi-atrium closed on three sides with glass. This solution allows for effectively filling the deep part of the building with light and focusing the attention of the living area on the terrace on the south, which can be accessed from all three sides: from the living room, kitchen and dining room. The northern part of the ground floor is a vertical communication and the parents' bedroom area, the children's bedrooms are located on the first floor. A relaxation and utility zone was located in the basement.
When designing the interiors of the building, the focus was on a harmonious combination of subdued colors and interesting textures of the finishing materials used, emphasizing the high quality of individual elements. Much attention was paid to the designed lighting, trying to make it an obvious complement to natural light and to harmonize well with it. Another element that unites the exterior with the interiors are the elements of green walls, which were used to finish the individual bedrooms.
