The design of the Hana Bank Seoul-forest branch reimagines the familiar experience of visiting a bank by transforming the often monotonous wait time into a moment of pause, reflection, and visual enjoyment. While banking spaces typically serve a direct functional purpose, this branch proposes a new typology—one where customers can rest within a calm, contemporary interior while taking in the lively scenery of Seongsu-dong. Wide windows capturing the urban landscape, softly curved bank counters, and a soaring parabolic roof collectively establish an elegant, open atmosphere that positions the bank as a modern urban shelter.
The arrival sequence begins with a dramatic change in scale. Visitors enter through a low-ceilinged threshold where red-patterned wood and gently curved white walls create a warm yet modern impression. Large circular ceiling lights add subtle depth, guiding customers toward a second, expansive spatial moment. This transition—moving from compressed to elevated space—sets the tone for the branch’s architectural rhythm.
At the heart of the interior is a generous high-rise roof supported by four central pillars. These elements work together to establish openness and spatial clarity. The pillars rise independently from the ceiling, enhancing the sense of lightness, while each incorporates a digital display to help customers monitor their queue. This allows visitors to explore or enjoy views toward the street without losing track of their turn.
The project’s defining feature, the “Roof of Hana,” is a parabolic structure detached from the interior ceiling. A slender gap between the roof’s edge and the outer walls creates the illusion of a floating surface. Warm hardwood patterns wrap the underside of the roof, and the gentle arch ascends toward a large window, naturally directing the eye outward. Beneath this main volume, additional roof layers distinguish the character of each interior zone and help organize spaces for work, consultation, storage, and staff use. Varied ceiling heights respond to the functional demands of each room, offering both cohesion and clarity throughout the building.
The bank window area maintains a lower ceiling height to meet illumination standards while ensuring visual comfort. Indiesalon also designed the service counters, integrating Hana Bank’s signature green into the walls and seating elements to create a unified, welcoming environment. In contrast, the VIP room adopts antique red tones to form a secluded and luxurious retreat within the branch. The manager’s office, marked by its unique arched form and dome ceiling, introduces another moment of architectural emphasis, and can be flexibly reconfigured through folding doors.
Through these interventions, Indiesalon proposes a new standard for financial interiors—one that balances functionality with a sense of refuge and aesthetic refinement. By harmonizing the spatial experience with Seongsu’s surrounding urban texture, the Seoul-forest branch reflects both the progressive identity of Hana Bank and the dynamic character of its neighborhood.
