This time we had a pleasure to complete a set of visualizations of new "Greenfields" project designed by RAU Architects. The project is an integrated circular mix-use masterplan for the city of Veenendaal. It combines housing, retail facilities and the subsequent necessary parking. A sloping landscape creates an accessible plinth that serves as a buffer between the public realm and the housing private domain.
The structure of the building designed by RAU Architects is divided into two parts to balance the mix of functions it houses. As the retail and parking demand bigger structural spams to accommodate their activities it becomes the base for light-weight wooden structure of the houses placed on top. The mediation between the different levels and programs is achieved thanks to the sloping landscape. It creates places for gathering and accentuates the entrances to the retail area.
Greenfields project in Veenendaal offers rich diveristy of residential typologies: apartments, gallery homes, penthouses and maisonettes. Different dwelling conditions are achieved by shifting modular construction of the building. It provides flexibility in design and meets housing demands of different target groups.
Project except being well designed technically and functionally also serves good for our planet. RAU Architects used several techniques which make the whole developement CO2 positive. Wooden constuction, rainwater retention systems, biodiversity and nesting areas for animals prove its positive influence on the ecosystem.
