The Frazier Conservatory is a remote residence and retreat located on a private farm in rural Erath County near Stephenville, Texas. Situated about seventy miles from Fort Worth, the Conservatory serves as both a family retreat and nature center, with seasonal public access for day visits and overnight stays. Its primary mission is to offer guests a place to disconnect from daily routines and technology, fostering reflection, social interaction, and a reconnection with the natural environment.
Set against the backdrop of a private soil conservation reservoir and surrounded by restored grazing pastures, the Conservatory embraces its setting with care. The flood line of the reservoir and the need to preserve existing pasture created challenges for building placement, resulting in a carefully minimized footprint. Structures were positioned to respect the land while framing views of the reservoir and surrounding landscape.
The property spans 650 acres and features a 50-acre lake, forests, streams, wildlife habitats, and a 100-acre solar farm. The retreat includes a multipurpose lodge, casita, cooking pavilion, pool, dock, and miles of trails, all designed to blend seamlessly with the natural Texas environment. Outdoor spaces encourage wildlife observation, nature walks, and quiet moments of reflection, underscoring the retreat’s role as both a gathering place and sanctuary for rejuvenation.
When not in private use, the Conservatory welcomes retreats, events, and rentals, with a special emphasis on supporting non-profit organizations tied to land conservation, agriculture, arts and culture, education, and regional preservation efforts. The material palette—locally sourced stone, wood cladding, stucco, board-formed concrete, and steel—reinforces the project’s connection to place while ensuring durability and elegance. Together, these elements create a retreat that honors the landscape while offering a restorative experience for its visitors.
