Adjaye Associates designed the Francis A. Gregory Neighborhoo Library around its’ natural setting, on the edge of the Fort Davis Park in Washington, D.C. The project incorporates Guardian SunGuard SuperNeutral (SN) 68 and Silver 20 to allow unrestricted views of the park from the inside of the library, and constantly changing views of the trees lining the park outside in the reflective mirrored glass.Used on all four sides of the library, the diamond patterned glass curtainwall stretches vertically to support a roof floating above. The glass wallsare like a checkered board with panels alternating between clear and solid colors, striking a balance between low-E and double insulated panes on the windows. Both SunGuard SN 68 and SunGuard Silver 20 not only enhance the aesthetic beauty of the library they each significantly contribute to the buildings energy performance that led to the library’s LEED-Sliver rating. Both contributed to the reduced solar heat gain, high visible light transmission and provide a neutral appearance.
